"Political activity or inactivity is a question of conscience...We are the state, each of us is therefore responsible for its condition and future. If we tolerate a defective system, it is because we have not yet created anything better; bad people will make bad decisions only until such time as better people have acquired the courage, strength and ability to replace them. A new political programme requires creativity, activity and radicalism, both intellectual and moral." -- words from Vaclav Havel, father of President Havel of the Czech Republic, found in Vaclav Havel: A Political Tragedy in Six Acts.

A few weeks ago when I first started reading President Havel's essay on the 'Power of the Powerless', I was impressed by his political philosophy -- written in very plain and simple words but no short of profound metaphysical ideas. Now I realised his father and probably the rather sad history of Czech Republic that insipred such fine writings and thoughts.
